The First Couple of Weeks

Time moves in strange ways in Morocco. There are days when the minutes seem to drag by, you find yourself waiting for something to happen, anything. Then there are days when the hours have flown past and all you want is a moment to catch your breath. We have found ourselves living in this strange time zone for a couple of weeks now. Granted, it has been a full couple of weeks with quite a few adventures, but not much to show for our time. As Americans this is a struggle, but it is normal here in Morocco.

We started our stay in an Airbnb outside of the city of Marrakesh. It was a beautiful place, but quite a ways off the beaten path. We jumped right in meeting expat families with young adult children. We made friends, got lost in the city and found ourselves some really excellent food. Many of the youth in this area are part of a climbing gym, so we joined the gym for a month to see how we like it and maybe see if we can't deepen our friendships. We spent our days driving, language learning and lots of down time.

After staying in our Airbnb for a week we packed up and moved to the city of Amizmiz. This city is located about an hour south west of Marrakesh. It is really close to the epicenter of the earthquake. Located in the foothills of the atlas mountains it is stunning and a slightly cool reprieve from the heat of Marrakesh. New friends have offered us the use of their house for up to 6 weeks while we try and find a home. We have felt blessed to have a temporary place to stay, and we find ourselves coming to enjoy this town very much.

Now we continue to search for a place to call home. We keep traveling between Amizmiz and Marrakesh trying to keep the kids connected and trying to settle in to this new life. All in all it is good. We wait, we trust, and we keep seeking.
